The Karimikui Coffee Factory was established in 1966 and rests on a 6 acres piece of land serving the villages of Githureia, Gituba and Kiamugumo. Currently, it is affiliated to Runge to Farmers Cooperative Society (FCS), in an area where most smallholder farmers are growing tea, not coffee. Coffees at Karimikui are depulped by a disk pulper, sorted in grading channels before being fermented for around 20 hours in shade. After fermentation, the coffee is washed again and soaked for 18 hours in clean water, before being dried in the sun (covered during mid-day and night) for 21 days.
